I am Shawn Tessmer, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), and owner of Peace & Consolation Counseling.
I am a committed Christ follower. My faith in Jesus Christ is essential to who I am. I became a Christian when I was 17. The Lord called me to work in counseling shortly after I had placed my faith upon him. It is my privilege to bring a Biblical worldview to my work with willing clients if they opt to receive Christian counseling. I firmly believe it is His love and His Holy Spirit which empower me to perform the good work He prepared beforehand for me to walk in.
I am excited to bring my knowledge in the area of Psychology, and many years of experience to help you with your struggles.
In serving you I will be basing my approach on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, while borrowing heavily from Family Systems Therapy, Existential Therapy, Jungian Psychology, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Attachment Theory, and several other counseling modalities.
By applying what works from multiple theories and methods of how to provide counseling I will be able to meet your needs and challenges with flexibility.
On a personal level I was raised in a farm family in Northern Iowa. I have been married to my first and only wife since 2006. The experience of being a husband and father informs much of my work with families and couples. I am a pragmatist with a down to earth calm personality and a dry sense of humor.
