Alexandru Popa

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor - Associate | MA, LCMHCA

From the time of my undergraduate studies, I felt led to pursue being a counseling professional. After I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts as a double major in Psychology and Human Services from Montreat College (NC), I began serving hands-on at a Christian home and school for children from crisis situations (Wears Valley Ranch, TN). Firstly, I served as a live-in Mentor and after getting married, my wife and I served as Houseparents for up to eight female students living in our care.

After learning more about the challenges and joys that come with the process of healing from multiple types of trauma, I understood the need for further training and pursued a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health and Counseling from Regent University’s School of Psychology and Counseling. I deeply resonated with Regent’s approach to teach academically strong information from a clear Christian worldview and understanding. I served for over a decade at Wears Valley Ranch where, among various positions, I was the Director of the New Life Counseling Center for the last few years. At Wears Valley Ranch, I provided counseling to families in crisis, children and youth accepted in the program, and to the program staff (Mentors and Houseparents) and their children.

I currently provide counseling services to children and adolescents, individual adults, couples, and families. I am prepared to offer counseling services for challenges with anxiety, depression, family systems, adoptive/foster family dynamics, attachment, relational trauma and interpersonal conflict, self-concept, men’s issues, and spiritual wellness and growth. I utilize an integrative and holistic counseling approach to assist clients in their pursuit of wholeness and health. I will tailor my counseling approach to each client and use curated concepts from Narrative Therapy, REBT, Solution-Focused, CBT, Rogerian/Person-Centered Therapy, EMDR, and Adlerian Therapy, all within a Christian lens.

I intend to meet every client exactly where they are in their life journey and join them on the path to better understanding themselves, their relationships, and the world around them. I believe every individual is made in the image of God, and is intrinsically worthy of attention, care, and acceptance. Every person is unique and has their own story. Through a genuine therapeutic relationship, I believe that every person can be healed from their past, find joy in the present, and be equipped to reach their potential of who God has made them to be.

Outside the counseling office, I enjoy spending time with my wife Carlie and our three children, playing soccer, and practicing jiu-jitsu.
