Thomas Gullberg

Licensed Professional Counselor

Hello, and welcome. If you are reading this, you may be prayerfully considering whether counseling could be a helpful next step for you. I hope that as you learn a bit about me, you will be able to discern whether I might be a good fit for you.

My path toward becoming a therapist has been shaped by both professional experience and a clear sense of Christian calling. I began my career in the corporate world and later moved into ministry, where I spent significant time walking alongside people carrying deep emotional, relational, and spiritual burdens. Again and again, I witnessed how much people longed for a space to slow down, be known, and bring their whole selves before God with honesty and care. Over time, I came to see counseling as a natural extension of this work of accompaniment and shepherding. Becoming a therapist was a natural step to God’s leading.

In my practice, I work primarily with adults and couples facing anxiety, depression, men’s issues, life transitions, unwanted sexual behaviors, faith-related concerns, marital difficulties, and related challenges. I have seen meaningful growth take place over time: anxiety and depression becoming more manageable, patterns of shame losing its grip, and relationships gaining greater stability and clarity. This work is rarely quick or easy, but through patient, faithful effort, real change is possible. My role is to walk alongside you seeking wisdom, compassion, and truth as you seek greater freedom, healing, and wholeness.

While I work with both men and women, I have a particular interest in supporting young men who are navigating questions of purpose, identity, masculinity, vocation, and faith. Many men today feel discouraged, disoriented, or unsure how to grow into the kind of man God is calling them to be. I aim to offer a space that is both honest and hopeful, where growth is shaped by responsibility, virtue, and grace.

A bit about me personally: I am married and have lived in Chicago for several years. I am actively involved in my local church and value rhythms of prayer, Scripture, meditation, and study as central to my own spiritual formation. I enjoy being outdoors, staying active at the gym, reading, and sharing coffee with friends.

I completed master’s degrees in both Mental Health Counseling and Theological Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. I care deeply about integrating sound psychological practice with a rich Christian theology of the human experience. I also write regularly about mental health, faith, and formation on Substack, exploring how doctrine shapes the way we understand suffering, desire, and growth.

If this approach resonates with you, I would be glad to connect, hear more about what you are seeking, and answer any questions you may have.
