Sarah Myer

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner | CNP

Following in my parents’ footsteps, I became a nurse a little later in life than most. I bounced around a bit in my nursing career, but it was my role as a county maternal-child public health nurse where I found my passion, which led me to return to school to be a pediatric nurse practitioner (CPNP-PC), as I hoped it would allow me to better advocate for patients. After graduation, I took a job in outpatient mental health, studied more, and became a pediatric mental health specialist (PMHS). Seeing the great need for skilled child and adolescent mental health specialists, I returned to school again to be a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC). After several years working in outpatient mental health as a nurse practitioner, I felt called to start a private practice. Branch Mental Health was started in October 2023 with goals to meet families where they are on their journey and to bring hope and light to our local communities.

With my nurse practitioner background, I primarily provide psychiatric diagnostic assessments and medication management services to youth and young adults in Minnesota. I reserve a limited number of openings on my caseload for adults needing medication management, as well. While I utilize brief psychotherapeutic techniques, most patients benefit from partnering with a therapist, as well.

Understandably, there is still a lot of stigma around medication management. My hope is to provide a safe, confidential space for questions, as well as education about risks and benefits of medications without any pressure.

Special interests include: adolescent mental health, trauma-related disorders, autism spectrum disorders, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, foster/adoption challenges, children with special needs, and mood disorders.
