Dr. Débora Spradling

Licensed Psychologist | Ph.D.

Hi there!

My name is Dr. Débora Spradling, and I am very passionate about the work that I get to do. I have my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and I love the opportunity to provide a safe space for others to continue in their healing.

I am incredibly passionate about providing a safe space for others through empathy and unconditional positive regard. Therapy requires such a deep vulnerability, and I feel honored to enter those moments with my clients. There are few things more rewarding than watching others grow in their recognition of who they are and what they need.

My work tends to center around a few key concepts: personal identity, self-worth, and self-compassion. Together we explore the beliefs we hold about who we are and what makes us important. Through our sessions together, we work to become more aware – understanding our emotions in a way that allows us to have clarity around our deepest needs, and how to regulate our emotions, so we can regain control of how we feel.

By diving deeper into ourselves, we can grow to understand the narratives around the pain we might be holding. Only by gaining clarity around the “heart” of the issue can we make significant moves toward healing. I see it as a privilege to be invited into my clients’ stories, and I have loved getting to watch the powerful work we accomplish in the spaces we create together!

As a believer, I incorporate Truth into our therapeutic work. Knowing that the Lord alone can heal our hearts and give our souls the rest we are looking for, our focus will be to walk towards Him as we become more aware of ourselves and our emotional needs. Together, we strive for true and full healing, that not only addresses emotional and mental health, but also draws us nearer to Him.

Typical issues I work with:
– Feeling overwhelmed, constantly worried, or having worst-case scenario thinking
– Feeling like “not yourself” anymore
– Feeling like everything is your fault
– Setting boundaries and developing the relationships that you want
– Taking care of yourself
– Stressing about your work being done perfectly
– Understanding your feelings and caring well for them
– Feeling lonely
– Transitioning into new seasons of life (new relationships, starting college, big moves, etc.)

I also specialize in working with new and expecting moms!
In our work, a few of the things we might focus on are:
– How to continue to feel confident in who you are, and in your value, apart from your amazing role as a mom
– How to incorporate self-compassion to fight mom-guilt or feelings around “not being good enough”
– How to make space in your life for the life-giving things you still love, while feeling connected to your growing family

I work with clients 18 years and up, individuals, couples, and families, in both English and Portuguese.
